The Subaru Active Shutter Eliminator is designed to increase the fuel economy to help meet the CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards. The active grill has a motor that moves the shutters in the grill back and forth to impure fuel economy. If removed the motor will continue to operate but won't have any shutters to open and close causing the car to not properly operate due to the check engine light. The Primitive made Active Shutter Eliminator attaches to the motor to "convince" the computer that the shutters are still in the grill, this allows you to run the awesome after market bumpers!
The modern vehicles equipped with CAN bus (controller area network bus) requires that all circuits be be completed to keep the ECU happy. When a circuit like the active grill shutter is not completed it can cause your check engine light and various other lights to come on. We have designed the active shutter eliminator to complete the circuit and keep your Subaru happy.
